The Sony Corporation sought proposals through an open competition for the development of core software utilities (framework libraries) that would support their newly-designed 3-D graphic and artificial intelligence modelling workstations (Sony NEWS).
These workstations were to be primarily produced for, and sold to, large-scale industrial manufacturers in Japan (and their overseas subsidiaries) for use in robot-aided manufacturing.
Based on an innovative proposal and a live B2B presentation, which incorporated the demonstration of a prototype knowledge-base simulator, a significant portion of the work was awarded to Mitsui Systems Research.
The project resulted in the development of a unique NEWS-native AI language, which integrated seamlessly with the workstation's Graphic User Interface (GUI).
